MAY Lusts: Current Beauty Faves
April showers bring May flowers.. in the form of makeup!
TGIF! It’s time for my monthly faves. Here are my May Lusts to help you get through the last 8 hours of your crazy work week. Just relax, drink your coffee, and look forward to the new products you might just end up purchasing this weekend!
Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse: I spent years working in the cosmetics department of Shoppers Drug Mart while going to college and at least three times a day, I’d hear customers raving about this product. I finally decided to try it on myself a year ago and LOVED it! I just repurchased it last month and have been using it again. My skin looks fabulous. I have always been skeptical about mousse foundations. Coming from someone who has suffered from acne prone skin (yes, makeup does wonders), I still cannot believe how great the coverage of this foundation is. I used to wear medium to very high coverage foundations and wouldn’t even think to try out a mousse. Hear you me, Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse works wonders. It leaves the skin with a flawless, airbrushed finish. Although it’s light and fluffy, I still prefer to apply it with a foundation brush because I avoid using my fingers at all costs. I would not recommend trying to apply this with a sponge. Apply it in circular motions to really create that airbrushed look, powder, and brace yourself for flawless coverage!
Cargo Cosmetics Lip Gloss Quad: I’m surprised this is the first time Cargo Cosmetics has been mentioned on The Beauty Vault. I fell in love with this makeup line at the age of 17 at Sephora in Disneyland, and guess what? They’re Canadian! Cargo can be found at numerous different locations. If you’d like to find out where you can find it near you, try the Store Locator. I absolutely love their tin componentry, I really think it sets them apart from other brands. Their products are all to die for, but I will stay on topic and discuss the Lip Gloss Quads. These lip glosses are extremely pigmented, luxurious, moisturizing.. just everything you want in a lip gloss. I love that each quad is in the theme of a city. I also love that you get four different shade options, you really get a bang for your buck. The hardest part is deciding which quad to choose! My pick is “Vancouver”. ;)
e.l.f Cosmetics Studio Matte Lip Color: I am currently infatuated with these. Studio Matte Lip Colors are a cross between lip liner and lipstick. They come in a jumbo lip liner form, and twist up to eliminate sharpening. They apply matte, no shimmer, no gloss. I usually add a little matching gloss over mine, but you don’t have to. One funny thing I found is that they taste sweet! I have a habit of licking my lips after applying a lip liner or lipstick and was pleasantly surprised at how sweet they taste. They come in 6 gorgeous shades, my favorite shade is “Tea Rose” which is a mauvey pink. For darker skin tones, I would recommend “Rich Red”. One downside with these, which I hope product development reviews and repairs is that the actual twist up component has a tendency to get stuck causing it to not roll up properly. This happened to one of my 6 shades and I’m still devastated over it. I’ve made it work, but it is a little frustrating. Other than that little speed bump, I highly recommend these and will be repurchasing “Tea Rose” in the future!
Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish: If there is one product that I urge you to leave your house for RIGHT NOW (okay, maybe AFTER reading this), this is it! As you know, Maybelline’s had nail polishes in their product line before, but never like this. To say I’m impressed with their new Color Show polishes would be an absolute understatement. These have got to be Maybelline’s best launch in the last 2 years, in my opinion. The Color Show polishes come in 3 different finishes. Regular Color Show (30 shades), Metallic Color Show (4 shades) and Shredded Color Show (4 shades). Shredded is basically like crackle. The quality, shade selection and durability are absolutely amazing. As you apply the nail polish, you can just see that the formula is unlike most drugstore brands. I would easily compare it to an OPI or Essie. I can’t believe they’re only $2.96CAD. As I type this, I am wearing “Orange Fix”, and I applied it 5 days ago. With a great base and top coat to seal it, it looks untouched! I can’t say enough about this product, you need to try it for yourself. If you are an online shopper, you can visit the Maybelline website and save $2 when you purchase 3 nail polishes: Click here.
Olay Pore Minimizing Cleanser & Scrub: If you’re looking for a gentle scrub and a refreshing cleanser in one, look no further. I’ve repurchased this product 3 times and have to say, it’s wonderful. I use it once in awhile when I want to switch up my skincare. I love the airless pump, it’s not messy and it allows you to get every last drop. I use one pump each time, lather it on a wet face and wait for the foaming action. Rinse, and you’re good to go. The scrub is gentle enough to use every day, which was why I initially purchased it. I have oily/combination skin, and it leaves my face feeling fresh and clean without drying me out. If you have sensitive skin, this would be a perfect choice for a scrub once a week. Simple and it works, just the way I like it!
Victoria’s Secret Shimmer Eyeshadow: Victoria’s Secret is not only known for sexy lingerie, but steamingly sexy makeup too! I’m a fan of their Beauty Rush line, but mainly due to the lip gloss tubes. I can do without the other makeup products. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a cute line, but it doesn’t satisfy the makeup artist in me. When it comes to the VS Makeup line, I am all over it! There’s something a little more sophisticated and sexy about it. There is a larger, more professional product line, and it has a department store look and feel to it. I’ve tried most of the line and have to say the Shimmer Eyeshadows are lovely. They come in “Sparkle” and “Luster” finishes. Although both have a shimmery payoff, “Sparkle” tends to be a bit more glittery, which I love. The shade selection is great, the compact is sleek, the payoff is wonderful and the eyeshadow adheres to the lid beautifully. I, as always, would recommend applying an eyeshadow primer before any eyeshadow to really get the full effect of the shade. Love!
That is all for this month’s lusts. If you follow me on Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest, you already know I lust over a new product every single day, but I had to pace myself. If you don’t follow me.. What are you waiting for? :)
As always, if you’ve tried or are going to try any of the above products – Tweet me! Email me! I LOVE to hear from you!
Have a wonderful weekend, gorgeous!
